Which is 37 km from Lansdowne and 69 km from Kotdwar, Tarakeswar Mahadev Temple is an ancient temple located in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Situated atop a hill at an altitude of 2092 meters, Tarakeswar Mahadev Temple is considered to be one of the ancient sacred sites, known as the Siddha Peetha dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the famous temples of Uttarakhand state.

According to legend, Tarakasura was a demon who meditated and worshiped Lord Shiva at this place. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva granted him the boon of immortality as per Tarakasura's request, leaving the son of Lord Shiva.

The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. The temple is situated amidst dense forests of cedar, cedar and cedar. Previously, a Shivalinga was present in the Tarakeswar Mahadev temple, but now Lord Shiva, who performs the Tandava, is worshiped.





Mahashivaratri is celebrated every year with great pomp and procession and devotees come here in large numbers to offer prayers. The temple is surrounded by thousands of bells which are offered by devotees. There are two hospices for tourist accommodation near the temple.

Devotees coming from private vehicles can reach the temple with their own vehicles, but passengers coming from riding vehicles can travel up to five km. One has to travel a distance on foot.
